# The Learning Transfer Toolkit: Design Training for Transfer

By   The Peerceptiv Team  ·   1 minute read

Self-Guided Worksheet · Learning Transfer

Learning transfer is the extent to which people apply what they learned in training to their real work. The best time to plan for it is while you’re designing the program.

At the end of most programs, you can tell who completed it and how they felt about it. The harder question comes next: can they actually do the work? The Transfer Toolkit is a set of worksheets that help you build practice, feedback, and evidence of skill development into a program from the start, so you have an answer.

## Design your program step by step

The toolkit wraps transfer around a program you already run. It walks you through four parts, each with a worked example and a printable worksheet to map it to your business:

01

Map your skills

List the 3–5 skills your program should build and describe what each looks like on the job. Everything else is built around them.

02

Design the work task

Choose a realistic task from your learners’ real work, with a deliverable that makes those skills visible.

03

Build the rubric

Write one criterion per skill, describe each rating level, and add comment prompts so peers give specific feedback.

04

Plan your feedback cycle

Decide who reviews, what they answer, and when you’ll check that skills are developing.

By the last worksheet, you’ll have a program design that gives people practice on real work, structured feedback to improve it, and evidence of whether their skills are developing.
